Warehouse Drawer Slides & Glides

Storage Density Demands

Modern warehousing - manual pick and automated AS/RS - relies on drawer-based bin storage for small parts and e-commerce fulfillment. A single tower: 20-40 drawers, each opened 50-200 times/day. That is 500,000+ cycles/year per drawer, making slide durability the #1 specification.

Load profile: most drawers carry 30-80 kg of small parts. Slides must support this while allowing fast one-handed pull at <40 N for picker ergonomics. Full-extension mandatory for all bin positions. Auto-return (self-closing) often requested for robotic systems.

BWD serves with 150 lb and 250 lb heavy-duty series configured with: full-extension, optional auto-return spring, e-coat finish (200+ h salt spray for non-climate-controlled warehouses), custom lengths 400-800 mm. For AS/RS: consistent insertion force (+/-5 N tolerance) for robotic mechanisms.

Certifications: FM Global (insurance compliance), OSHA ergonomics, EN 14744 (European medium/heavy shelving).

Storage Density Demands

Technical Selection Guide

1

Calculate Cycle Life Requirement

Annual cycles = picks/day × 365. Example: 100 picks/day = 36,500/year. For 5-year life: need 182,500+ cycles. BWD heavy-duty rated 50,000 at full load = 200,000+ at typical 60% utilization.

2

Match Drawer Depth

Warehouse cabinets use 500–750 mm deep drawers. Slide length must match within 10 mm for full-extension access to the last bin row. Stock lengths available or custom-cut on MOQ 500.

3

Select Locking Mode

Manual pick: lock-out only (hold open for two-hand access). Mobile storage: dual lock (hold-closed for transport, hold-open for picking). AS/RS robotic: no locking needed — robot controls drawer position.

4

Environment & Finish

Climate-controlled warehouse: zinc plating adequate. Non-climate or outdoor staging: e-coat required. Cold storage (-20°C): e-coat + low-temperature synthetic grease specification.

5

Integration & Replacement

VLM/carousel compatibility: pre-drilled mounting patterns for Kardex, Hanel, Modula. Disconnect feature enables <5 minute per-drawer slide replacement without disassembling the storage unit.

Warehouse Slide Deployment Process

1

System Assessment

Identify storage system type (VLM, carousel, manual tower), drawer count, picks/day per drawer, loaded weight, and operating environment. BWD calculates required cycle life.

2

Model Selection & Life Calculation

BWD recommends model based on load + cycle requirement. Provides projected replacement schedule and total cost of ownership comparison vs current slides.

3

Pilot Installation

Install on highest-frequency drawers first (10-20 units). Monitor performance for 30-60 days. Measure actual cycle count, pull force consistency, and operator feedback.

4

Full Deployment

Roll out across all drawers. BWD supplies pre-assembled kits with system-specific mounting brackets. Installation documentation for maintenance team training.

5

Lifecycle Management

BWD provides preventive replacement schedule based on actual usage data. Bulk replacement kits shipped proactively before end-of-life. Disconnect feature enables <5 minute per-drawer replacement.
